Yoga for everybody and every body...

About Kate

Kate moved to New York City in 1998 to teach 4th grade in a public school in Manhattan. At that time, she was introduced to yoga as a physical practice rooted in ancient philosophy. Since then, the depth of yoga is slowly revealing itself and has become a perpetual exploration. Kate grew up as an athlete and as she developed a yoga practice in her 20s, she found joy in experiencing strength and balance in a different way. Yoga allowed the harmony of two of her passions: movement and spiritual curiosity. Yoga and mediation helped her heal a long term injury which deepened her respect for the practice as well as her knowledge of anatomy and physiology. As a city dweller, yoga is one way Kate connects with nature and integrates eastern practices to support western life.

After months of study at Integral Yoga Institute of NYC, Kate completed her 200 hour Hatha teacher training in January of 2009. Since then she completed certification in Prenatal Yoga, Postpartum (mom & baby) Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Yoga in the Classroom and Yoga for Labor and Delivery. She also studies and practices outside of NYC with Shiva Rea and other contemporary vinyasa teachers.

Teaching elementary school remains Kate's full time job. She currently teaches 3rd grade in Brooklyn. She weaves yoga into the school day with her students and offers professional development for teachers on how to bring yoga, pranayama and meditation into the classroom.

Outside of her school, Kate teaches private and group yoga. She also volunteers as labor support for women giving birth at Woodhull Hospital. She is in the process of completing a doula and childbirth educator certification.
